BREAKING NEWS – NELSON BAY BUILDING HEIGHTS Update 27.2.18

Council’s latest Draft placed on Exhibition on 21 February “Progressing the Nelson Bay Town Centre and Foreshore Strategy” still includes a proposal to more than double building heights across Nelson Bay Town Centre based on the argument that this is essential for developers to achieve viability and to attract permanent residents to bolster retail businesses.

TRRA believes that the height issue is critical to the future of Nelson Bay and needs to be discussed in an open forum where all options are laid on the table and residents and stakeholders are provided with an opportunity to air their opinions.

THIS WILL BE THE SUBJECT OF A PUBLIC MEETING ORGANISED BY TRRA ON TUESDAY NEXT 6 MARCH @ 7pm at Nelson Bay Bowling Club.

Council Planning Officers, the Mayor and all Councillors as well as State and Federal members have been invited.

    So well put Bill.

  2. Bill Goddard says:

I will be very brief, the future appears obvious!
RETAIL sales are DOWN (Meyer/David Jones etc) ONLINE sales are taking over, and each generation is becoming MORE computer savvy, the only shopping in the future could be having coffee at your local coffee shop. (Looks like that now!) Supermarkets NOW, want us to shop online.
As for high rise in Nelson Bay, the 2 biggest winners are developers and the local council. rates for a block of high rise units are multiplied many times over on the land required to build them.
My family ‘found’ Nelson Bay over 50 years ago, the town is losing the ‘charm, serenity and innocence’ which made me leave Sydney all those years ago.
