Harvey Norman DA at Taylors Beach

Harvey Norman DA at Taylors Beach

Harvey Norman are proposing a major development at Taylors Beach to include their own large store, another servo, fast food outlet and 19 other industrial lots. While much of the site is already cleared (illegally over a decade ago) the proposal will clear even more vegetation including 28 koala feed trees.

.

We urge concerned individuals to make a submission by Friday 31 January – see shorturl.at/ekoNS or just email council@portstephens.nsw.gov.au with ‘DA 2019-815 – Objection’ in the subject line. Key grounds for objection are loss of further fauna habitat, stormwater drainage issues, traffic generation and loss of visual amenity. We believe that in the context of climate change, bushfires and existential threat to our koala population, Council needs to re-think its approach to approving major developments even on land already zoned for business use.

I find it very disappointing that anyone would think of destroying Koala habitat considering the loss of habitat through NSW & indeed Australia. This seems short sighted and just a grab for profit. We Australians have lost so much this summer with the devastating fires throughout the country. The 28 Koala feeding trees may not seem much in the Port Stephens area, but keeping those trees and the surrounding habitat could make a very large contribution to allowing the repopulation of native animals.
This is not the time to destroy native habitat.

Medowie would welcome such a development. With Over 500 new homes to be built over the next 2/3years and the population of Raymond Tce to draw on as well our area would be more rewarding
    for any such proposal.

  3. Michael W Mace says:

A few of us have known about it for a long time. Development like this is good, and it’s only one level. Let people involved and invest in our area.

A little give and take on the part of developers for protection of our koala corridor would surely not be too much to ask. And yes, we’ve known about this for years, including the illegal clearing in the first place – and the subsequent mowing to make sure it didn’t come back!
