Big W at Salamander – locking in planning failure

On 16 May the Joint Regional Planning Panel will meet to consider the Development Application for a BigW store behind K-Mart and Aldi at the Salamander Centre.  This is the latest chapter in the long running bungled approach by Port Stephens Council to the planning of our major shopping centre.  While TRRA would welcome more shops and more competition at the Centre, we object to this DA, which fails to meet recognised standards on drainage, traffic and parking, signage and noise, and poses a risk to the protected Mambo wetlands and wildlife.  The development would finally and fatally damage the chance of an attractive, sustainable and vibrant mixed use community hub for the 21st Century.
