Clr. MacKenzie’s Call For Casino

Flying Big Kites at Tomaree Lodge Casino

I suppose if you had Mayoral and Councillor elections coming up and you were getting headlines like the one in Newcastle Herald May 23: HERE and June 06: HERE and subsequently in the Examiner on June 06: HERE you could get try to get the Examiner to run a front page story on June 24 HERE  about Clr. Bruce MacKenzie calling for a 25 story Casino complex on the site of the State Government owned Tomaree Lodge disabled care facility.

If we fall for this one, like the Examiner seems to have, we will get a big debate about something that Councillor MacKenzie has dreamed up to divert attention away from the issues that really matter in this election.  The motion seeks to write to the State Government with this idea for consideration, no developer, no DA no expressions of interest just an old story that surfaces every now and then when required and will pop up again somewhere in a few years time.

I think the Councillor should join the people that he seeks to relocate from the Tomaree Lodge in his retirement to: “a rural farm-like property which had farm animals and a vegetable garden where the residents could be active and interactive with their environment” or face up to the things we really want to discuss before the election.  That would be a better environment to fly big kites like this one……………..

Not this old chestnut again!? Since when did Councillor MacKenzie think this was HIS idea? It has been rejected many times before… just a smoke screen for his dodgy dealings with the Tower family…
