TRRA Tourisim Forum – A Positive Start

SAVE THE DATE AND BE THERE FOR THE TRRA TOURISM FORUM –

“REVITALISING THE VISITOR ECONOMY”

MONDAY 11 MARCH 2013 – 7.30 pm – Nelson Bay Bowling Club

(A Personal Perspective “Everyone of us has an involvement in the local tourist industry –  whether it be the friendly exchange you have with a visitor asking for directions or the extra coffee shop or restaurant that we enjoy all year round – without the tourist $ there would be less facilities for us” – Margaret Wilkinson, Hon Secretary, TRRA)

Tomaree Ratepayers and Residents Association Inc (TRRA) has been fortunate enough to have Mr John King OAM, Chairman, Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) HERE accept our invitation to be our speaker at a special Tourism Forum  “Revitalising the Visitor Economy” which TRRA Inc is organising in place of our monthly March meeting on Monday 11 March. This will be held at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club commencing at 7.30 pm.  We would ask for a gold coin donation at the door to assist with costs.

Mr King is the Day 1 keynote speaker for the NSW Local Government Tourism Conference which commences the following day at the Shoal Bay Resort – Details and Program HERE

He was one of the 4 members of the State Government’s Visitor Economy Task Force which presented the Government with a comprehensive Report on what needs to be done to achieve the Government’s target of doubling the value of tourism by 2020. The Taskforce members were delighted that just before Christmas the Government came back with an equally comprehensive response in which they have basically accepted all of the Taskforce recommendations and have matched that with a firm implementation program. This will very much change the Government and industry approach to tourism and hopefully towards a greater level of productive cooperation across-the-board.

He will give a summary of the Taskforce recommendations and particularly those which relates to regional tourism and what that means to local tourism development. He will then be involved in interactive discussions with those attending on the implications and opportunities for your local area.

In 2013 TRRA Inc is changing the way it has operated in the past and looks forward to more liaison with other organisations on the Tomaree Peninsula for the mutual benefit of our beautiful area.  This Forum should provide a great opportunity for feedback from the community and people with direct involvement with our tourist industry.  The outcomes and ideas will be shared with Council, tourism operators and community organisations.

Start jotting down your ideas and questions now – this Forum is for everyone – spread the word!
