Soldiers Point Marina – March Update

At the TRRA meeting held on 11 February, 2013, Colin Howard, President of the Soldiers Point Community Group gave a comprehensive update on the revised proposal submitted by the proponent in October last year: HERE.

He highlighted the continued inadequacy relating to scale, navigation, endangered species, parking and adjacent erosion issues. At the same time Council received additional information from the applicant which made a number of changes to the original proposal.

  • It still wants to take over public waterways and put in another 58 berths for large vessels at the Soldiers Point Marina.
  • It still proposes to use  valet parking solution based at Salamander Bay
  • It will reduce the current navigation channel from over 100 to 40 metres.
  • It will require 14 boat moorings to be removed, with no guarantee of replacement.
  • It will still encroach on the habitat of Dowardee Island and the resident, endangered species.

Council has now re-advertised the new proposal and has allowed the public four (4) weeks in which to make submissions on this updated proposal. The public can access the full details of the new proposal at the Tomarree Library until the 13th April.

A request to Council to extend the time available for public submissions has been rejected.

TRRA will be making a submission asking Council to reject this latest proposal.

TRRA members and members of the public can access example submissions letters at these locations:

One Response to Soldiers Point Marina – March Update

  1. Kevin Lynch says:

We all need to object this latest Submission because it will be a huge overdevelopment and change the whole ambience of the area. There are not enough parking spaces there at present and this will only make it worse. There is no provision for Disabled Parking and insufficient Toilet Faculities. The smell from the Garbage Bins recently are terrible and the noise created , sometimes as late as 11pm is beyond a joke.
