PS Council Tree Preservation

At its 19 December 2011 Meeting, Council deferred adoption of a revised Tree Preservation Policy pending further discussion of some points.

Council initially requested a revised policy that would have effectively removed all protection for existing trees.  TRRA acknowledged the perception in the community that it is difficult to get approval for removal of dangerous trees but pointed out that this is not borne out by the evidence.  We submitted [HERE] that the existing policy was broadly correct but that staff could provide better advice on procedures and rights of appeal.  Staff recommended a compromise policy which seems generally acceptable but some Councillors want further changes – we will keep this under review.
